“Book increases in value”
A woman who bought a copy of Harry Potter in 1997 for just £3.50 (159 baht) has discovered that it is now worth a staggering amount.
Jane Thompson-Webb, now 54, bought an original soft cover first edition of Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone when she was 26.
Jane’s copy could be worth as much as £5,000 (226,000 baht) because it’s a first edition.
One way to tell if the book is a first edition is that the word “philosopher” is spelt incorrectly on the back cover, as it’s missing an “O”.
Jane was working at a bookshop when she bought the book.
“I remember people coming to buy the book before Christmas.
“There were many parents with young boys who came in after Christmas with the boys asking when the next book was coming out because they wanted to read the next story. That book got boys reading.”
