“Scientists find ancient cheese”
Scie”ntists in China, who discovered an ancient burial ground, found something else in the coffins that surprised them — cheese back 3,500 years.
Scientists are now analysing the DNA from the cheese found in the cemetery located in Xinjiang, Western China.
The cheese was made from goat’s milk and was buried near the necks of the mummified bodies.
Scientists say the cheese will be able to give them an insight into how the ancient Chinese people lived.
Experts have confirmed the cheese was made using lactic acid bacteria and yeast.
Chinese scientists say the discovery is unprecedented, since it allows them to see how bacteria has evolved over the past 3,000 years.
