“Worker discovers 1,500 year old tomb”
A construction worker working in Syria accidentally stumbled across an ancient tomb on the side of the road that dates back more than 1,500 years.
The discovery was made on the road between the cities of Aleppo and Damascus.
The Syrian worker was clearing rubble from a destroyed home when he discovered the ancient Byzantine tomb.
Authorities quickly cordoned off the area to inspect the site.
At the site, stairs lead down to the openings of two burial chambers, each containing six stone tombs, with the sign of the cross on the top of one stone column.
The Byzantine Empire began in the 4th century AD under the Roman Empire with Christianity as its official religion.
