“Want paper? Watch an ad!”
A public toilet in China is forcing users to watch an ad in order to gain access to toilet paper.
A clip of the bathroom went viral last week, with some people describing the toilet as “dystopian”.
In the clip, a person is asked to scan a QR code on the toilet roll dispenser and watch a short advert, before a few squares of paper are dispensed.
If that’s not enough paper, or if you don’t want to watch an advert, you can pay a small amount of money to skip the ads.
Chinese authorities say people had been stealing large amounts of toilet paper, and something had to be done about it.
The move has been heavily criticised, with many recommending that tourists carry their own tissues in case they needed to use a public bathroom in China.
