“Picasso sells for 1.2 billion baht”
A painting by Pablo Picasso has sold at auction for about 32 million euros, or about 1.2 billion baht, in Paris this week.
The colorful portrait of Picasso’s longtime muse Dora Maar had remained hidden from public view for more than 80 years.
Painted in July 1943, the portrait depicts Maar in a brightly colored floral hat. Maar had been Picasso’s partner for about seven years, and the relationship was coming to a painful close.
The work was purchased in 1944 and had not been on the market since, remaining in the family collection.
Despite the hefty price tag, the work was far from the most expensive Picasso work sold at auction.
In 2015, the artist’s famed “Women of Algiers” sold for $179.4 million, or 5.8 billion baht.
Pablo Picasso was a famous Spanish painter and artist who died more than fifty years ago.
