“Dog Enters Half-Marathon”
Police monitoring a mini-marathon in Indianapolis last weekend spotted something unusual among the thousands of runners — a dog competing in the event.
Police said the dog was trotting along happily with the pack of human runners at the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon.
Video footage showed a police officer approaching the unregistered four-legged competitor asking, “Are you running the race, buddy?”
The dog was just a couple of kilometres from the finish line when he was intercepted, and ended up watching the rest of the race as a spectator.
He was taken to a government dog shelter, where staff reported he was happily playing with the other dogs.
