“Book returned 126 years later”
A library in Wales had quite a surprise when a man walked in to return two books that had been checked out since 1910.
The books had originally been borrowed by his grandfather, who had only meant to keep them for a week, but they ended up staying in the family for well over a century instead.
The library charged a late fee of just one penny per week back then, meaning the fine would now be substantial.
The grandfather who first checked them out went on to serve in both World Wars before passing the books down through the family.
Library staff were thrilled to finally get the books back. Nobody was made to pay the century-old fine.
