“Queen turns down award, saying she doesn’t feel old“
She may be 95, but Queen Elizabeth II says she feels too young at heart to accept the award for “Oldie of the Year”.
The monarch believes “you are as old as you feel” and thinks she does not meet the “relevant criteria” for the trophy.
Her Majesty sent a message back to the organisers with her “warmest best wishes”, saying she “hopes you will find a more worthy recipient”.
The “Oldie of the Year” is run by awards chairman Gyles Brandreth for The Oldie magazine.
It’s an annual award given to an older person who has contributed to society.
