“Man survives 24 days at sea”
The Colombian navy has rescued a man who survived 24 days adrift in the Caribbean on a sailboat by eating ketchup, garlic powder and seasoning cubes.
Elvis Francois, 47, from Dominica, had scrawled the word “help” in English on the boat’s hull.
The sailboat was spotted by a pilot 222 km from land.
Francois said his ordeal began in December when currents swept the sailboat out to sea while he was making repairs in a village where he lives.
He said he survived on a bottle of ketchup, garlic powder and Maggi cubes.
He also collected rainwater with a cloth.
Finally, a plane passed by and he signaled with a mirror.
Francois was found in good health, but he had lost weight.
