“Books come back late”
A library in England said a book was recently returned by a patron who checked it out in 1976.
Blackpool Library said the former patron told librarians she used to come to the library in the 1970s, when she was working in a nearby store.
“When the store closed, she thought she brought them all back but whilst doing some sorting recently, she found it hiding,” the library said in a Facebook post.
The book, Tolkien’s World by Randel Helms, was 47 years overdue.
In the same week, a library in Missouri is celebrating the return of its oldest-ever overdue book — 30 years overdue.
Both libraries have a no-fine policy, so they’re not asking any money from the former patrons.
“It’s never too late to come back to the library, especially now that we are fine-free,” said the Missouri library.
