“Ancient fossils discovered under school”
Students at a high school in Los Angeles found out they’re sitting on ancient fossils that are nearly nine million years old.
Workmen renovating buildings at San Pedro High School discovered large numbers of fossil bones embedded in limestone blocks.
It’s one of the largest fossil collections ever found in California.
The fossils include shark teeth from the largest shark that ever existed called the megalodon.
Other bones are from ancient salmon, turtles, whales, dolphins and birds.
It’s not only an exciting find for scientists — the high school students now have a unique learning opportunity.
