“Old lady gets hit with 1.2 million baht gas bill”
A gobsmacked British pensioner says she nearly died when she received a gas bill for £27,000 for her one-bedroom apartment.
That’s about 1.2 million baht.
Janine Duffel, who’s disabled and living alone, was used to paying out £53.50 (2,300 baht) for her monthly gas and electricity bill.
Then she got a letter out of the blue a few weeks back demanding £30,000 by 9 June. Then there was an extra £27,864.20 charged for a single day’s energy use.
The stress from the bills affected her health, she said.
An official from British Gas contacted Janine to say a terrible mistake had been made. They have since apologised to Janine.
