“Bear closes airport”
A Japanese airport was forced to close last Thursday because of a runaway bear on the tarmac.
The bear forced staff to cancel flights twice until they finally had to close down for the day.
The black bear appeared on Thursday at Yamagata Airport.
Staff used a car to chase it away and closed the runway, with the bear still roaming the vicinity.
The closure led to 12 flight cancellations.
Hunters have set up traps to capture the bear and police officers are surrounding the airport to prevent it from escaping. “We’re in a stalemate now”, one person said.
