“Woman gives birth on plane”
A woman gave birth midair Friday on a flight from Jamaica to the United States.
Now the big question is — what nationality is the baby?
The mother on board a Caribbean Airlines flight had a successful delivery, but immigration officials in New York where the plane landed are not sure to register the child as American or Jamaican.
One immigration attorney said if you’re born in the territory of the United States, even if it’s on a plane, you are a US citizen.
“The question is: What constitutes US airspace?” the attorney asked.
So far no decision has been made.
