“Welcome ‘Moo Daeng’”
First we had ‘Moo Deng’. Now we have ‘Moo Daeng’.
Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo officially announced that its newest star, a female pygmy hippo, has been named ‘Moo Daeng’, or Red Pork, following a massive public poll that received more than 370,000 votes.
The name “Moo Daeng” was the runaway favorite, with a staggering 350,000 votes.
The other popular names were Moo Wan (Sweet Pork), Moo Yong (Dried Shredded Pork), Moo Num (Tender Pork) and Moo Yor (Vietnamese Sausage).
The newborn is the daughter of mother ‘Moo Krob’ and father ‘Kanoon’. She is also the niece of the world-famous ‘Moo Deng’ at Khao Kheow Open Zoo.
According to zoo officials, ‘Moo Daeng’ was born on March 22 at 1.44 pm.
Vets say she is in excellent health, now weighing 14 kilograms.
