“Ape statue is a no-no”
An ape-loving British woman has been threatened with a huge fine unless she takes down her beloved gorilla statue that sits in front of her home.
Adele Teale purchased the statue over two decades ago, and says she displayed him without a problem at her previous house in Leeds for more than 15 years.
However, after moving to Wakefield in 2024, the local council has told her to take down the statue, which stands at over a metre tall, after receiving a complaint.
Adele quickly appealed the decision, but Wakefield Council says it’s not changing its mind.
She said: “Why should I? It’s not hurting anyone, and it’s not going to fall. I know that it’s not everybody’s cup of tea, but I like it.”
Adele has until 9 June to remove the ape from her house or face a fine of up to £20,000, or about 870,000 baht.
