“Man, claiming to be 142, dies”
A Saudi Arabian man who passed away this month claims to have been 142 years old.
The man, Nasser bin Raden Al Wadaei, died on January 8, leaving behind 134 children and grandchildren.
More than 7,000 people attended his funeral service.
According to Saudi media, Al Wadaei was born in 1884, the same year construction began on the Statue of Liberty and before the unification of Saudi Arabia.
At the age of 110, Al Wadaei married for the last time and later had a daughter.
But there have been some questions about the man’s age.
Chair of the British Society for Research on Ageing, Professor David Weinkove, said: ‘It seems very unlikely that this man was really 142 years old.
‘No one can really know for certain because in a lot of parts of the world, they don’t have good records going back that far.’
